The Two-Handed Claymore

  • Name meaning: Derived from the Gaelic claidheamh-mòr, meaning “great sword”.
  • Design: Features a large double-edged blade (often around 45 to 55 inches total length) and distinctive downward-sloping crossguard quillons ending in quatrefoils (four-leaf clover shapes).
  • Usage: Wielded by fierce infantrymen from the 15th through the 17th centuries to deliver crushing, heavy blows that could break enemy formations.
